Van Hummel: "I learned that I won the race later"

The winner of the last Side-Alanya stage of the TUR, Kenny van Hummel, rider of the Skill Shimano Team, said, "It has been a tough finish. I reached to the line with Andre Griepel. However, I learned that I passed him later on. I also thought that he won."

Van Hummel stated that:

"It was a very good team work and I took a good position. I was not sure whether I won or not. When Griepel exulted, I thought that he became the leader of the stage."

HIS TEAM MATES REQUESTED THE FOOTAGE

Team mates of Andre Griepel, the world famous rider of the Omega Pharma Lotto Team, who had put his stamp to the TUR last year, thinking that Griepel won the race, requested the footage of race from the TRT studio. Nevertheless, after watching the records, they saw that Van Hummel was the winner.

Van Hummel added that Turkey is a great country and he will tell many people about our country when he returns to his country. Van Hummel said, "Not only its natural beauties, I can also say it was a splendid race. I make progress every year. And I know that I will do better. I also congratulate my team mates."

The awards of the riders were given by Director General of Youth and Sports Mr. Yunus Akgül and Turkish Cycling Federation President Mr. Emin Müftüoğlu together.

Director General of Youth and Sports Yunus Akgül said, "A new stage has been added to Istanbul and it was given a new impulse to it. A good organization with new arrangements every year will carry us beyond. We can say that this tour has become a trademark now. We are doing a first and we will continue to do better ones."

As it has been observed that Turkish riders have a difficulty in finishing the stages in the tours organized until today, the efforts of riders of Manisaspor and Konya Torku Şekerspor to finish the tour was worth seeing in the 47th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey.

Meanwhile an award was presented on behalf of one of the sponsors of the tour, Turkish Airlines, Alanya Area Manager Serap Keskin to the leader of General Individual Classification, rider of Type 1 Sanofi team Aleksandr Efimkin.
