Amaël Moinard Heads To Turkey For Winning

The Frenchman from Cofidis is delighted to discover a new country.

Frenchman Amaël Moinard was revealed by the first Tour de France he took part in two years ago and finished fifteenth. Last month he won the final stage of Paris-Nice and the king of the mountains competition. Now he eyes the Presidential Tour of Turkey and aims at another win. He also sees the trip as a unique occasion to discover a town that fascinates him: Istanbul.

As a professional cyclist, Moinard gets everything provided and organised when he travels but privately, he loves to explore the world as a backpacker.

“I’ve never been to Turkey before”, the Frenchman said. “I don’t know anything about it but I’m looking forward to discover Istanbul. A couple of days ago, I read a city guide. I know it’s been the crossroads of many civilizations. There is a rich history. Istanbul looks to be open to the world. My priority is to race seriously but I hope to be able to see a bit more on my bike before the race starts. For us, it’s great to compete in another country than the usual France, Belgium, Italy and Spain… To say the truth, I’m pretty happy to skip the Tour of the Basque Country this year.”

Last year Moinard didn’t enjoy any success on his bicycle. Nowadays he’s got good form and wishes to profit from it for winning something en route to Alanya. “I’m feeling good”, he continued. “I’ve seen the stages to Pamukkale and Fethiye are pretty hard. I’ll try to win there although I know I’ll have to follow the team’s instructions first. I’m not going to Turkey only to prepare for the following races.”

Cofidis will line up in Turkey with their best riders and pretty much the same team that will participate to the Tour de France in July with the likes of Rémi Pauriol, David Moncoutié, Rein Taaramae and Leonardo Duque. The French team hopes to increase their lead in the Europe Tour by collecting more points from Istanbul to Alanya.

Fifth stage win for Greipel, first stage race overall win for Visconti

Giovanni Visconti will bring back the first “Turquoise maillot” to Italy as the colour of the leader’s jersey has changed from yellow to the mythical colour of Turkish birthstone this year. This is the first stage race overall win for the 27 year old but the 46th Presidential Tour of Turkey will also be remembered for the five stage wins of the great German sprinter Andre Greipel from the world’s best team HTC-Columbia who scored again in the town of Alanya at the end of the eight days “Tur”.
